First, the British were not fighting the French. Secondly Dunkirk is on the coast of France and thirdly World War Two did not end in 1940. The war in Europe ended on May 8th., 1945 it ended in the Pacific on Sept. 2nd., 1945.

Well, I know all that. I have a BA in history. My point is that the US education system does not prepare many people and the movie seemed to make no allowance for people who were ignorant.
