These sassy, sophisticated, solvent women say they are struggling to find other halves that can measure up At 48, Jane Townsend is beautiful, independent and single. She keeps fit, takes great care of her appearance and is looking for a man who is active, in good shape, articulate and emotionally open.
Given her good looks and vivacious nature, eligible suitors must surely be beating a path to her door.
Yet as Jane, from Sheffield, explains, it has been a struggle: The men out there are delusional. I went out with a guy who lied about his age, saying he was 47 when he was 50, who then had the gall to tell me he wanted a younger woman so he, as he put it, could breed.
'After my divorce, I gave up my prime dating years to raise my two girls, expecting that when they left home, Id have time left. But there has been a shift and now the men arent there. Where I live its hard to find someone cultured unless theyre eating yoghurt, and the men my age all seem to be well more than a little overweight.

I wonder if women will ever figure out the majority of men have no need of a woman who seeks to be their ‘equal’?

Where’s Andrew Dice Clay when you need him?
She thinks she’s a trophy instead of a potential wife.
Good luck with that.
I do not feel sorry for these women, but this one had children and divorced. She brought up her daughters and then decided to look for another man. I suspect she is looking in the wrong places.....and she isn’t looking for someone with whom to have children anyway.
They all got married while you were dating the bad boys.
They'll figure it out along about the time they realize that men hear "contrary harridan" whenever they say they're "strong and independent."
“...and the men my age all seem to be well more than a little overweight.”
A little overweight is not much of a problem.
I’m in my early 20’s. The “men” my age are mostly illiterate, rude, ignorant, left-wing, atheistic potheads.
Don’t give up. I found the perfect man when he was 27. :)
"she is competing for a financially secure older man" and what is she bringing to the table?
A surly attitude, getmedats demands, and tons of creams/lotions to hide reality from her sugar gramps!! She probly won't let daddy warbucks sleep in her bed.....it musses up her hair, don't ya know.
“She is competing for a financially secure older man...”
This seems to be the problem that Jane and her ilk do not realize.
Like it or not, there is no lower age limit on gals who will date financially secure men, regardless of looks or the man’s age or even character.
Jane needs to ask herself if she wants to consider dating men in their 70s/80s to be realistic. No? Then find a hobby.
Yep, and I'm doing it right now while laughing my ass off too.
Was married 30 years, divorced and the b*tch got half after not working over 15 years. You know what? Women can suck it for all I care.
I do what I want, when I want and like another poster said when I want female company it's just a phone call away (and NO, I'm not paying for it.) The women are into the booty calls more than the men are these days.
And when I'm done? She goes home and I get a good nights sleep.
They are f***ing girls 10-15 years younger than those who are complaining, at will.
Well, I don't want to tell you your business, and there's plenty to be said against 20-somethings....
But if you've got a job, and a reasonable attitude, you can have whatever you want.
+1
To me, liberation means I can earn my own money and don’t need to rely financially on a man. Once I got a good job and had enough, I realized I didn’t want a man around at all. I don’t hate men, I just feel the same way about them that I feel about dogs: too much effort.
This is precisely what plenty freepers have prayed for
