A secret cubicle in the floor of a dungeon, topped by a trapdoor in which the unfortunate victim is dropped and forgotten. It is a tomb in which the condemned dies.
French origin, mettre aux oubliettes, metaporically, assigned to oblivion.

Oubliette: where Stephen King’s Dark Tower series of novels gets chucked after the casting choice for Roland Deschain.
The casting of MM as the man in black is inspired, but Roland ... about as weak as it gets. What a disappointment.

They should build a bunch of those oubliettes into Trump's wall, so if any illegal intruders try to climb over the top,
shvrooooooooommmmm!!!!, down they go into the bottom of the oubliettes built into the middle of the wide wall!
(Don't worry, we'll humanely build little escape hatch tunnels to crawl out of the oubliettes in the wall, back through to the Mexican side of the wall again.)
