LEQUIRE, Okla. -- One Oklahoma resident is getting much praise after she killed several copperhead snakes by herself.
On Friday, Susan Thompson was visiting her neighbor, Mrs. Newby, when she discovered that the 72-year-old had taken care of 11 copperhead snakes that she found under her home in Lequire, Oklahoma.
Thompson said Newby had used a shotgun, a shovel and a rake to get rid of the snakes.
She posted a photo to her Facebook page with the caption, "Mrs Newby killed 11 copperheads last night at her house! She's a snake killer if you need help call her! She is 72 years old!"
Facebook users were full of praise for Thompson's neighbor. One woman even commented, "I love Mrs. Newby. Does she need more shells?"

Looks like the DNC convention.
Seriously slow news day, I guess. Who GAF?
Copperheads are not aggressive snakes.
Mom?
Except the one that bit my mom when she was 11.
How dare she kill them poor widdle snakes!
You’d have to step on one to get it to bite.
A moose bit my sistuh once
Been doing it all her life. Probably get good at it by the age of 5 in copperhead country.
This story would have been better had she been 73.
The problem with snakes under your house is sooner or later they come IN the house looking for rodents. It can become a problem and needs to be taken care of.
“72-year-old woman kills 11 copperhead snakes with shotgun, shovel, rake”
Was she low on shells?
I just purchased a birthday present (Snake Guardz) for a friend also named Newby who has found rattlesnakes in her yard. Snakes must be attracted to that name. :-)
I have a couple of elderly aunts in Arkansas who will kill any snake for whatever reason. We had to tell them that black snakes are our friends because they eat rodents. “A snake is a snake!” was the response.

Thanks. That fact seems to be slipping by a few, here.
Killing snakes is something you learn to do when you grow up picking and chopping cotton.
When I was a small child we were staying at a lake house next to Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. My dad and I were walking along and suddenly I was flung through the air to my left and the next thing I remember seeing was my dad holding on to what looked like a long rope connected to the ground. He yelled to the neighbor to grab a shovel and come quick, then pulled hard and whacked the "rope" like a whip against the ground. The shovel was used to behead the stunned copperhead. Pretty exciting stuff for a six year old.
My dad grew up in southeast Kentucky on an isolated farm and copperheads were always a problem for farm animals and dogs, or straying little kids. There would be nests of them in rock piles and he lost a couple hunting dogs to their bites. So when he saw one moving alongside of me a few inches from my ankle parallel to our path in the long grass he went into rescue mode.
I guess after she shot at them, under the house, she saved her shells once they came out (from under)... and used the rake, then shovel to get the bastilles.
Only Mrs Newby knows ;-)
