Trump threatens insurer payments — and health care enjoyed by Congress

WASHINGTON — President Trump on Saturday indicated he will make good on a months-old threat to destabilize the health insurance market if Senate Republicans cannot repeal and replace major elements of the Affordable Care Act.

The first part of the ultimatum likely refers to cost-sharing reduction payments made by the federal government to insurers, which in turn offer plans with discounted deductibles and copays for many low- or middle-income Americans buying plans through ACA marketplaces.

The second portion, while far narrower in scope, is significant in that it highlights an additional tool at the president’s disposal for acting unilaterally on health policy. Though ACA repeal has been in the spotlight throughout 2017, other rumblings regarding subsidies specific to Congress have been rare.....

“By blowing the whistle on this special deal concocted by OPM, we will make members of Congress better understand the burdens of ObamaCare, thereby incentivizing members to get to work on a good repeal and replace plan,” DeSantis wrote then in a statement.

Good! I’ve always said if Congress had to live as we do, things would change. That goes for their salary, their huge number of vacation days, the perks, the retirement, free college in any university for their entire families and their healthcare just to mention a handful.

I think Democrats will start to break rank if he follows through on this. The ones that are not rich and their staffers will be hard hit. I don’t think they will become conservative, but I think there will be some”bipartisan” votes for improvement.

Congress has effectively unconstitutionally established itself as a privileged / protected class imo, the Founding States making the Constitution’s Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 to prohibit the feds from doing such things.

"Article I, Section 9, Clause 8: No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States [emphasis added]: And no person holding any office or profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state."

The smart crooks long ago figured out that getting themselves elected to federal office to make unconstitutional tax laws to fill their pockets is a much easier way to make a living than robbing banks.

Why is it a “ threat” to have Congress live under the same laws they passed for the peasants?

Members of Congress, former Members of Congress, former Presidents, and their families if covered by govt. Wonder if McCain would have second thoughts, or is he covered by Tricare because of his military service?

Also cut back on SS details and $ paid for former presidents. It’s ridiculous that, i.e. the Clintons and Obamas come into office and leave office “dead broke” but instantly make multi-millions of $$$. Clintons went from -$0 to $250M, and Obamas got $60M for working with a ghost-writer and putting their name(s) on books. They can pay their own damned insurance and their own damned staffs and offices.

Remember when they bitched because Ronald Reagan was paid a paltry $2M for an appearance in Japan?
