Quintessential album from the cool period. Without a doubt one of the best albums in history. Just great. Up there with Sgt. Peppers.

Good stuff. One can cover all scales on a string instrument and a glass slide.

Thanks for the link, too!

I saw Brubeck live back in the 80s. Magical night.

Just started listening to 50s and 60s jazz this year. This album was one I discovered immediately.

Bebop is great for the energy, and the cool era stuff like Miles Davis is a perfect balance to bebop. Miles Davis and Brubek can put me in a trance.

One of the greatest recordings of all time. Miles Davis was brilliant.

Speaking of greatest recordings of all time, it is the 50th anniversary of Bobby Gentry’s evocative-of-a-hot-Southern-Summer piece: “Ode To Billy Joe.”

Satanic Majesty’s Request? Exile On Main Street? Beggars Banquet?

I’ve have no kick against modern jazz,
Unless they try to play it too darn fast;
And change the beauty of the melody,
Until they sound just like a symphony,
That’s why I go for that
Rock and roll music
Any old way you choose it;
It’s got a back beat, you can’t lose it,
Any old time you use it
It’s gotta be rock and roll music,
If you want to dance with me,
If you want to dance with me

Eddie Jefferson So What

Here are the complete lyrics for "So What" However - the word "help" should be "hep" Enjoy. W.L. Barlow

Miles Davis walked off the stage
That's what the folks are all saying
Oh yes he did leave the stage
Soon as the solo was over

Coltrane he walked off the stage
That's what the folks are all saying
Oh yes they both left the stage
Clean out of sight, now

They felt they had to rehearse
Although we know they are masters
They get a real groovy sound
And you will have to admit it

Oh yes they both left the stage
Soon as their solos were over
And if you can't figure out their groove
I'd like to help you

Well, my friends
How about Miles Davis
I never know why some people always
Try to find some fault of this man and his horn
And when they go
To wherever he is playing
They seem to go to see whether he
Is going to get to business

(scat section spelled phonetically)
Sa bap m boo ba doo-dle do ba doo dn shiy
Dooi dn dzoo grahp
Fiddle-dee bap m bah bu dzeh ah
He never walks around the place and speaks to
All of the folks he don't know, I wouldn't either
And neither would you friends
But I, I know he is friendly
I do, the rest of us we do
Oh yeah
We dig his beautiful soul and we love
Him and his blue horn,
And here's another thing now
About the clothes he wear
I am sure his style is in the future
He is cool, the fit of his clothes are perfect
Just like the way he plays,
He is not afraid of being different
And he has won most bold
Of this modern jazz,
He and Gillespie are kings
Miles and his group are breaking records, yeah
Because they sure do swing

Miles Davis walked off the stage
That's what the folks are all saying
Oh yes he did leave the stage
Soon as his solo was over

Coltrane he walked off the stage
That's what the people are saying
Oh yes they both left the stage
Clean out of sight, now

They said they had to rehearse
Although we know they are masters
They get a real mellow sound
And you will have to admit it

Oh yes they both left the stage
Soon as their solos were over
And if you couldn't figure out their groove,
Well I have helped you

Oh yes they both left the stage
So what!
