DVD is a HUGE LEFTY!!! He has WAY more to apologize for than an ACCENT!!
Costner also had a terrible one in 13 DAYS (Bostonian accent).
Lifelong fan of DVD. Such a talented guy.
That entire movies needs a re-boot/re-mix

50 years and I never heard this complaint until now. The constant search for stories that matter little.
They must not has been too bothered by the accent, to wait over 50 years.
Did I read that correctly, that DVD will be doing a song and DANCE number in the next film?
If the director decides to leave the scene in the film, that is.
But it was a marvelous movie.
.
‘Is accent was ‘orrible, wot?
The guy is 91 and still kicking. And dancing. Relax. Have a drink.
As long as he doesn’t trip over the ottoman he should be okay!
We saw DVD live at a fundraiser event about a year ago. He was singing and dancing like a man 1/3 his age pretty amazing. And it was in a sweltering auditorium the AC was overwhelmed.
He also had his 50-something trophy? wife with him.
She insisted on performing and was god-awfully atrocious.
He literally asked her to leave the stage. I wouldn’t have wanted to be in the car with them on the way home.
Great line about the ottoman. But another loss to the forces of PC.
So bad that in Men in Tights that Robin said people would follow him because he had an English accent.
I watched a few minutes of that yesterday.
Give him credit he forgot to use it most of the time but when he did it was worse than mine.
Evil ages....BFD!
If he felt so strongly about it, why did he take the part in the movie in the first place, and be compelled to affect a bad Cockney accent??
I don't think anyone over there was upset or seeking an apology. I think this was just a case of Dick Van Dyke poking a little fun at himself, nothing more.
If this Wikipedia fact is accurate, the wife was only about 44 when you saw her, and the reason she's a lousy performer is that she's a cosmetics technician rather than ... a performer.
He has a nightclub act and still dances well. He did a turn on one of the award shows around his 90th birthday.
Check out the You Tube video of him doing an impromptu “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” for a bunch of folks in a coffee shop a year or so ago. Magic.
