Oh, I HATE cell phone culture. They don’t even look up when they cross streets, like they think they’re safe in their little bubble... fools.
I'm right there with you with hating "cell phone culture". It's like people with their stinking cell phone plastered to their face are exempt from manners, from observing social niceties, from exercising elementary caution (as in looking both ways before crossing streets), and regard live people as mere distractions from what's really important--that little piece of plastic.
Yesterday, I was sitting outside with my neighbor, watching her adorable 2 year old daughter prance around the yard. Lately, her 2 year old has discovered the joys of waving at people and saying, "HI!" "Hi", "Hi", "Hi", her little reloader works at top speed. This young man with the aforementioned plastic face accessory totally absorbing every molecule of his attention walked by. The 2 year old jumped up and down, furiously waving and saying, "HI!" He remained oblivious, to her great frustration. Finally, I shouted at him, "Hey, the little girl is saying HI!" and he finally looked up, startled to be back into the real world. He smiled at the little tyke and she was mollified. How pathetic he was, not even responding when addressed.
