"There's been so many," a neighbor said of shootings in the area. "It's just random. During the daytime, during the nighttime, all times of the day you just hear them shooting."
Family members are grieving and neighbors are outraged after an East Side drive-by shooting killed a 4-year-old boy and left the boy's mother with two gunshot wounds in her leg. Police said the gunmen involved in the shooting pulled up in front of a simple, one-story home in the 200 block of Hub Avenue around midnight Wednesday and opened fire. De-Earlvion Whitley lay sleeping in the front room of the home. Bullets ripped through the window panes and fatally struck the 4-year-old. He was pronounced dead at 12:03 a.m. on Thursday at the home.
His mother, 29-year-old Cyntwanisha Whitley, was struck twice in her left leg by the bullets. Police said the "intended victim" of the shooting was unharmed. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said the shooting was likely gang-related and could be retaliation for a shooting earlier in the day that left two injured. Before noon on Thursday, De-Earlvion's grandfather, Brett William O'Connor, and other relatives gathered at a home near the scene of the shooting to grieve the loss of "Little Earl." "It saddens me that the streets have come to the point where innocent children are being killed in their sleep," he said. "The family is saddened by the loss of Little Earl. At this moment, we're just trying to piece our lives back together, which is going to take a long time." Cyntwanisha Whitley is currently recovering in the hospital but is struggling with the loss of her little boy, family said.

If these shooting happen all the time, then move yourself and your family. Like, duh, can you be any more stupid to stay there and let your babies be murdered in their sleep?

Well, that makes it even and alright according to the Police Chief, although it it hard to imagine a 4 year old being an effective gang member.

But how do we explain grandfather Brett William O’Connor? Is Brett William Cytwanisha’s father? Or is he from the other side of the family?
Well, the names are pretty bad, but nothing justifies murdering a 4 year old. Despicable. But odds are they do know who did it and won’t say. So it’ll be hand wringing all around but no snitching.
