Sounds like you were a hell of a teacher. You deserve a medal. I spent 25 years working in uniform in NY State’s prison system. I can’t imagine how tough it was to deal with school administrator’s and troubled students. Convicts were easier to deal with. At least you could lock them up if they caused trouble.

Actually my public career was mostly in Woodside Queens. We had at one countb57 languages. Our kids ran the gamut of going anywhere from Attica to Yale Med. Many of my Catholic school kids became MOS, as they say in the City. One fellow told me that countng NYPD,PA,FDNY, 50 of my kids were at Ground Zero on 9/11. One didnt make it home. He was in Ladder40 on his way up.
