Thanks for the explanation. Wife goes thru both Bitlocker and MS password prompts (company laptop). She’d asked me about disabling them. Bitlocker sounds like it needs to stay in place...password too.
If you’re the only one using the computer at home , passwords are a pain . Yes, netplwiz is your friend ,but sneaky Microsoft will say your password needs to be updated
This is beyond a bad idea. The Windows login serves more than just local protection.

Bitlocker, I found out about this the hard way, i could not go into the repair mode unless I had the bitlocker key. Had to have the companies IT department repair the computer for me. After this was done I went to my control panel and disabled bitlocker. Got chewed out later for doing so but I just printed out the key codes and later was able to repair myself. Since this is a company computer I leave the bitlocker on now. My personal computer I turn off.
Those are helpful, timesaving "life-hacks." LOL.
I’m going to go on record as saying this is bad advice and should be ignored. While passwords are imperfect, you should never leave your workstation wide open without a password. You’re just inviting trouble. Caveat emptor!
I agree. Mint Cinnamon is awesome. I went there when XP support died and haven’t regretted it for a second. My PC boots in about 20 0seconds and shuts down in 5. Such a sweet OS.

As I noted, 20s boot-up is typical and not too bad considering my laptop is > 5 years with an older i5 chip and only 4GB memory.
So if your snobbish perspective prohibits you from grasping not everyone has fast computers, well.....there you go again.
You’re welcome. I haven’t seen anyone respond to me otherwise, so I think I’m right here. I spent an extra $99 to get Bitlocker enabled on my home PC. But it’s really good to have it, as I no longer worry about losing my identity or God knows what else, if someone gets my computer. Also, I’m now ok with using automatic password fill-ins on Firefox, knowing that others cannot access it.

Not having a userid and password is just ignorant. Anyone who can get on your network(or a network you are on) can do anything they want to you. Make your password your address when you were growing up if you can’t remember passwords. 701LathamRd

I’ll be buying a new Dell laptop with Windows10 soon, so this info is good. I currently have a desktop with Vista...so it’s time, I guess.

Get classic shell- you’ll like the old style menus more- easy to install and use- lots of folks won’t run windows 10 without it
LOL, it was time years ago if you have Vista (or Windows 8). I simply skipped Windows 8 after all that I heard about it...and waited for 10 (which still can’t match 7).
