Sounds like opening a bar next door might be the way to go.

There is a distribution center near me. They are ALWAYS hiring which means a big turn over.

I think they’re headed for same day delivery in most of the country. The original fulfillment centers were at shipping hubs, the more recent ones seem to be aimed at having a couple of sizable centers within an overnight radius of most major cities.

In the cities where they’re trying same day delivery, they tend to stock a sub-set of their most sold products in a number of in-town locations, then backfill from their regional hubs all day long. They’re doing their own deliveries for same day, and relying on a combination of shipping companies allied with the post office for last stage on overnight deliveries. Now that they’ve got most of the hubs in place, opening up local delivery is pretty cheap for them.

The last big advantage to local retailers is that you can run up to the corner and get what you want immediately. I think Bezos is aiming to kill off that advantage.

Warehouse jobs are usually 10-12 hour days, with mandatory overtime when they need it.
A friend worked for Amazon, but he found another job after a few months because it was too physically demanding for him, being 50 years old with a pacemaker.
Here are a couple of examples of job listings when I looked up Amazon jobs. Take note of the section "We want you to join the team if you can check these boxes" section.

would you take it? Why or why not? More or less money than I'm making now? Better or worse work conditions than I have now? Better or worse opportunity to advance than I have now? Am I physically able to do the work demanded? Run it through a decision tree and see what answer popped out.

less money than now. sounds like worse working conditions. sounds like little room for advancing. So the only thing going for it is the health care benefits that I need for my wife. The job I have now pays better but is only part time with zero benefits.

Companies usually end up with the unions that they deserve. Sounds like the Teamsters need to get busy.

it's easier to find work while you are working than when you are unemployed

I've been recruited by Amazon on two separate occasions. Both times, I told them to pound sand. I wouldn't work for those douchebags if I was starving.

But that's in IT. They may be okay for other lines of work.

I sold inventory to Amazon when they were a new company back in the 90s. I’ve often amused myself with the thought that the lowly Amazon clerk I dealt with most likely became a millionaire from stock options. Me on the other hand... LOL.

The electronics recycling and resell crowd does the same and pays less.

Everyone needs a job! If it sucks, find another job. We have one in our town and many work there. I’ve heard it’s hard work, but benefits are decent. I’d go for it if I needed a job or a change.

I have a friend who worked in one of their distribution centers and she thought it was an ok job. She had rather strange hours - 10 hour days, 4 days a week so her off days varied. And, from Thanksgiving to Christmas lots of required overtime. But they did try to keep employee morale up - weekly drawings for prizes, etc., and overall not a bad job. This lady was 60 when she started at Amazon.

I agree with the ones who said try it and if you cannot stand it you can quit. Nothing lost.

If you are an office monkey like me, I heard it is hell. Suffocating controls and objectives, someone has to do the work though.

I think you are fine as long as you aren’t salary.

Take a job?

If you are on welfare, definitely not!

I haven’t worked for a Fascist since I quit the last government contract I took (many years ago now), and I don’t plan to start down that road a second time.

nope.

I don’t agree with things about Amazon (like recent story about subsidy for packages sent) and don’t want to help Amazon make any money.

what does it profit a man to gain the world yet lose his soul?
