You are most welcome — ping it to the moon!
Evan Sayet is brilliant, and he writes so well. Someone said this article had previously been posted. I certainly never saw it. Except for your post I’d have missed it—and that would have been my loss.
(The basic point, btw, is priceless. The other side is viciously slashing away with a murderous knife—while at the same time asking us if our POTUS might not be taking Miss Manners sufficiently to heart. To which Sayet replies, ‘You don’t bring an etiquette book to a knife fight.’)
I was critical of the author, not you, unless you are one and the same. But I grant you (pun intended) that if the General had been a drunk, Lincoln would have been wise to distribute his tonic of choice.
I am not the author - when the Muse is with me (and that is not often), I am at about 10% of this guy!
HST, I believe (at least the lore is) that Lincoln wanted his other Generals to start drinking what Grant drank.
The theme is “Fighting Man.” Grant was a Fighting Man!
President Trump is a Fighting Man!
‘Bout time we had a Fighting Man in the White House who is on OUR SIDE!
Just so!
I’ll add Evan Sayet to my list of authors whose articles I seek out, and when he produces another gem, I’ll post it!
With regard to the “previously posted” comment, I did not see it. And, if, as you say, a thread is posted twice, well, is that not a good thing?
I just wish this thread had several hundred responses! It deserves several thousand!
With respect to “the rules,” this is war!
All is fair!
It seems a long time ago that the FR Network directors were drinking beer and swapping stories with Evan at CPAC.
Yes! Unconventional insights from a hidden gem. If you haven't been following Evan Sayet you are missing out on some of the keenest observations anywhere and bonus, it comes with a comic flair.
+1
I am an Evan follower now!
Fer Shure!
Fer Shure!
I surely do wish I had met him!

What a great article. Evan is dead on. I have been wondering what had become of him. That was a fun evening.
Thanks for the Ping!
