LAS VEGAS (FOX5) - Abuse and neglect detectives are investigating the death of a toddler at a resort south of the Strip Saturday afternoon.
Metropolitan police responded to a call of an injured child at the Grandview Resort on 9940 South Las Vegas Boulevard at 4:50 p.m. Officers located a 3-year-old boy suffering from heat-related injuries, according to Lt. Carlos Hank.
Emergency medical personnel transported the child to St. Rose Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Lt. Roger Price of the Special Victims Unit said the parents of the boy realized he had been left in the car in the parking lot of the resort for over an hour after arriving at the hotel, but it was too late.
"Any amount of time in that environment can be deadly to a child," Price said.
Apparently, the parents were visiting Las Vegas as part of a large family reunion that brought together family members from across the country and lost track of the child.
Price added that about a dozen children were part of the gathering.

Thanks. Food for thought.
No, not easy, but possible and done for eons. The first time said child hides in the clothes rack and thinks it’s funny, said child gets his or her bottom warmed— that soon puts an end to that. that’s the way my parents handled it and so did I. Both of my Millennial aged children have been raised to successful adulthood.
You all made me rethink the ‘built-in alarm’ system. It seemed possible - based on the ‘engine, oil, heat, lights’ red alerts already on most dashboards. But as you pointed out - why add another expense unnecessarily?
Since not all auto owners drive children or the elderly with them - perhaps the current phone/GPS systems could be programmed to beep when we arrive at our destinations - with an announcement to “remove passengers’.
Thanks for your comments - I had a hard time logging on - so I went out for a lobster lunch.
God bless

A better technology already exist to do what you want.
The GPS systems where you attach a tag to article you dont want to lose and then tells you where they are when lost.
So you tag your child or elderly parent then a ll that is needed is to modify that system slightly so that if you get more than say 20 feet away from the tag it alarms your phone.
Such a product is easily doable and I would think a desirable product for those with children. Many old folks homes have similar devices to detect patients that wander away.
So lets leave some personal responsibility with parents and guardians and not force everyone to pay for the mistakes of a very few.
The government already mandates enough money wasting rules and regulations on us.
As a poor Southerner, married with 4 kids, I always drove used cars; mostly Chevrolets & Fords. Once bought a 1956 Cadillac convertible for $200.
My first new car was a 1987 Pontiac Fiero. LOL!!!!
I loved the looks of that car.
One of my co-workers bought that car the first year it was out. (never a good idea)
The car was nothing but trouble for him. Like the old VW Bugs you had to drop the engine out of the car to work on it. So getting it worked on was expensive.
He didnt keep it long so I think it was all warranty work. I think GM gave up on the car too quickly.
The Caddy might have been a good investment.
Sorry about that. Was not intentional.
Looking back, I should have made it clear that my statement was not a sourced statistic, rather my opinion of what I believe to be the case.
OTOH, since it's also my wife's opinion, it should be considered *almost* fact. :-)
It is closer to 90%.
You don't forget your kids.
People shrink from recognizing it because of the horror factor. Leaving a child strapped in to bake to death is beyond most people's imagining.
But it is the perfect way to get rid of that inconvenient child and not go to jail. In fact you will get an outpouring of sympathy from people who will defend your, at best neglectful, at worse murderous, worthless life with the cry that "they have suffered enough."
Pah.
What the H E Two Sticks is wrong with people??!! How in the world do you leave an infant in a car like this? Unless you’re a complete moron or a complete devil it’s beyond me. The pain and horror that little one went through. Now the child is with The Virgin Mary, mother to all children and beyond anymore hurt in this world. How sad.
One of the simplest, low tech ways to remember that you have a backseat passenger is to put something you will need in the backseat.
A purse,a wallet,a cell phone.a briefcase-——something.
Not a perfect solution and accidents will still happen as long as humans inhabit the earth.

Bingo it saved lives,
NO ! Parents should have a brain. You don't put Christmas lights in the bathtub either.
You can't regulate for every idiot in the world.
I am sorry, but I don't think I have ever made a nasty comment here. At least, I never tried to.
I knew a young woman who worked at a casino. She told stories...If you don't pay up... well, in her experience, she had a loyal customer who kept losing parts of his fingers.
Sorry, Mears. I thought you and I were kind of on the same page.
Seriously, all the best to you and yours.
You sound like a great parent... something tells me you're a Dad. :)

I’m sorry-—I’ve been sarcastic and snide more than once today————time to logoff.

That seems to be the prevailing opinion for opposing another safety feature for preventing these types of ‘passengers left in hot vehicles’ incidents.
The best solution offered is the ‘locator tag’ idea - for children and Alzheimer patients. Both wander away and this is a good way to find them.
Thanks for your response.
