wouldn’t lay the “idiot” jacket on her just yet. It’s possible (but not likely) there could have been mechanical issues.

Not at 80 mph in a residential neighborhood. I have had total brake failure and loss of steering from a failed tie rod. In either case you let off the gas, use emergency brake and/or down shift, etc. In the even that she was going 80mph due to a stuck accelerator, brakes and shifting into neutral would be options.

No such thing as an “emergency” brake. The parking brake is more likely to cause the vehicle to spin and flip at that speed
