Depends on the car. That's what it was commonly called on my '66 Dart, and it worked when I had to get the car off the Long Island Expressway at low speed when I threw a wheel cylinder, including off a downhill exit ramp in Brooklyn. Abandoning the car was not an option. Of course I did not use it at highway speed.
