Police arrested a 17-year-old girl after she crashed her vehicle into an Indiana home Wednesday night, killing two sisters inside, according to officials.
Family members said the girls, 17-year-old Haleigh and 9-year-old Callie Fullerton, were watching TV in the living room when the car plowed into the house just before 9:30 p.m. They were killed on impact, according to WXIN-TV.
It's still unclear what caused the driver, who police say was traveling at about 80 miles per hour, to lose control, sending the car careening into the home, located 100 feet away from the roadway.
The Clinton County Sheriff's Office says they asked the prosecutor to charge the driver with criminal recklessness resulting in death. At a press conference earlier in the day, officials with the sheriff's office said the driver may have been under the influence of opioids and she could face more serious charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury if the presence of opioids is confirmed.
When Clinton County Sheriff's deputies arrived on scene, they found a white vehicle in the living room. Several people were still in the vehicle, according to the sheriff's department.
The girls' mother, 37-year-old Bridget Fullerton, was walking into the room as the car came crashing through the home; she was flown by helicopter to an Indianapolis-area hospital for treatment. Her condition is unknown at this time.
A third sibling was upstairs at the time of the crash, and he was uninjured. Father Dennis Fullerton was not home when it happened.
Investigators say there were three other juveniles in the car at the time of the crash. They were treated with non-life threatening injuries at the scene.
The home has major damage, and local members of the Fullertons' church helped secure it.
The vehicle involved in the incident has been impounded by authorities. The driver was taken to the juvenile detention center in Delaware County.
The prosecutor's office will determine if the 17-year-old driver will face charges as an adult.
A GoFundMe account has been set up for those who would like to provide donations for the Fullertons.
Wow!
House WAAAAY off the road. Just a county road.
Suspect under the influence of OPIODS.
Was there any connection between the two 17 year old girls? Has anyone checked social media?
In short, was it intentional instead of a so-called accident?
I’ve found drugs and booze are usually involved in things like that.
The worst I ever did was roll a car in my own cow pasture.
Yes, I was drunk.
I looked at the picture of the house.......my goodness the girl had a TON of area to go to if the car was out of control. I can’t believe the car hit the house and the girls like that with all that open space all over the place. This could be one of the most tragic stories I have ever read.
You have to stop and get out of the car BEFORE YOU TRY TO TIP THE COW OVER!!!;0)
My house sits at a T intersection, but I have been extremely fortunate that no one has ever plowed into it. If a vehicle did, it would most likely hit my bedroom and possibly the guest room next to mine. Luckily, the street that “ends” at my house is pretty short, so hopefully no one really has enough space to get up to dangerous speeds.
If I were the family you mentioned I would have long-since moved. The broken legs would have done it for me; they’ve been hit three times since then. It makes you wonder what the heck they’re waiting on. Maybe a broken neck? Sheesh.

NOW YOU TELL ME!!!
They tried to sell after the second collision but no one would buy.
Small city and everyone and their cousins knew the history.
This was before the yankee invasion.
A State Trooper finally bought the place.
Nothing like a blue and grey full wrapper to get your attention.
When they built there it was a nice quiet neighborhood. But several traffic light additions later their street turned into a convenient short cut.
Lots of people still use it as ap short cut.
Or house sits on a curve in the street and like a lot of typical houses 2 bedrooms are in front along with the living room. There is a courtyard in front of the living room so it’s protected but we’re lucky that there is a huge olive tree on a mound right in front and in the middle of the 2 bedrooms. The tree wasn’t doing too good last year so hubby wanted to have it taken out. He got a firm no from me. I said it was planted there for a reason.
Good for you! This isn’t the first time this has happened. Most of the time residents of the home escape mostly unharmed.
This one was the absolute worst outcome. My heart hurts for what is left of this family.
Well I couldn’t read Your minds list of crazy sh!t to do.
Good point. I just usually made it up on the fly.
I was a big fan of spontaneity.
Now, not so much.
Much easier to miss the potholes and ditches than to get out of them.
Oh, I'm so sorry; I spoke too soon. They did try to sell sooner (good job sticking your foot in your mouth, TXBlair!). I'm glad they were finally able to move away...and I hope the state trooper and his family stay safe!
Not to mention the headlights constantly shining into the house at night.
Yes, I almost mentioned the headlights in an earlier post. They used to drive me crazy since my bedroom is what’s directly at the intersection of the T, but now with better curtains they’re not as noticeable.
You didn’t put your foot in your mouth, I didn’t say anything about the original owner trying to sell.
The Jersey wall seems to have worked because it has a few scuffs on it but no one has managed to defeat it yet.
Can you imagine running into a house and having a pajama clad state trooper carrying his badge and a pistol demanding to know just what in God’s name you think you’re doing?
A conversation I think I would rather avoid!
