Over the last half-billion years, scientists say there have been five mass extinction events on Earth in which a wide diversity of species on this planet suddenly died off. Now, there's growing evidence that a sixth mass extinction is unfolding, according to scientists who track species around the globe. In a new study, researchers say the current mass extinction is even "more severe than perceived" and amounts to "biological annihilation" affecting thousands of species.

I will answer this with the seriousness it deserves.
I for one, welcome our insect overlords.
We’re doomed, I tell you. Doomed!
Glow bull warming. Everyone will die unless we give the scientists more of the taxpayers’ money.
“Seems like much of the “extinction” is happening in 3rd World countries. What can you do.., what can you do?”
A mass extinction will not recognize borders nor first or third world developmental conditions.
Moat of the extinctions were result of extra terrestrial
events - asteroid impacts, gamma ray bursts
......led by uber liberals from schools like Stanford around the world the Scientific “Community’s” current credibility is still down in the mud with the Climate Change fraud that started off as Global Warming.............also a fraud!
"About 8.7 million (give or take 1.3 million) is the new, estimated total number of species on Earth -- the most precise calculation ever offered -- with 6.5 million species on land and 2.2 million in oceans."
How many species on Earth? About 8.7 million, new estimate says
So, we have a "mass extinction" affecting less than 1/1000th of the species on earth?
The hyperbole has finally reached the level of hysteria. This has to be one of the most irresponsible articles ever written.
Oh the humanity...
Stuff happens.
Does this mean no Word Series this year?!
He is right about this.
Never before has there been humans around to document the extinction of species.
Humans were around for the extinction of mastodons and mammoths but I dont recall seeing that they bothered to document the extinctions.
The lesson to be learned from this is...
That all life on Earth has been wiped out AT LEAST 5 times, and yet there is still life. Very abundant life.
As far as extinctions of individual species, over 90% of all life that has ever existed on Earth has gone extinct.
Keith Richards will carry on.
In 1976, I pealed of on a motorcycle for the first time.
I was 10.
The music of that time was brilliant.
The idea some fool could suggest the end of the world is imminent is beyond stupid.

All of this doom and gloom about the environment and not one mention of Global Warming.
Over the last half-billion years, scientists say Nonsense. This is the millionth reincarnation of the The sky is falling syndrome. And what are we suppose to do about it? Give these scientists taxpayer money and give the government more power over your life to take away your liberty and freedom? Nonsense. Classical “evolutionary” theories posit 95% of all species that existed are already extinct. Are we suppose to feel guilty about that too?
