Frances swashbuckling TV star turned environment minister Nicolas Hulot laid out Frances new climate plan intended to meet the ambitious targets of the Paris climate accord on Thursday and become carbon neutral by 2050. [ ]
We are announcing an end to the sale of petrol and diesel cars by 2040, Hulot said, calling it a veritable revolution.
The solutions are there, Hulot said. Our own manufacturers have what they need to support this promise, adding that it all contributed to the public health agenda.
Acknowledging that reaching the target would be tough, particularly for automakers, Hulot said that Frances car industry was well equipped to make the switch. [ ]
Hulot also said he would end all new exploitation of oil and gas reserves in France, for which a law will be put through parliament in the autumn. He vowed to end all use of fossil fuels by 2040.

About as zany as Mr. Hulot’s Holiday circa 1953.
What will they use? Flintstone Mobiles?
Idiot!
The German ban is slated to start in 2030....so the French are lagging by an entire decade.
That gives them plenty of time to back out. If they are serious about this, why not do it bow?
Great! More gasoline for us.
Will they have a solar military too? Air France?
Will they have a solar military too? Air France?
So France will single-handedly save the Earth by 2040. They won’t be around anymore, having sacrificed their economy, their culture, and their entire civilization. But those left alive in 2041 can still remember them by eating French fries, French bread, and French toast, knowing we’re all safe because of them.
Yes it will be tough...it will be very tough for the people who have these rules imposed upon them...not for those of us who make the rules.

Why would phasing out petrol cars be a bad thing?
Are there people who would do anything in their power to hang onto petrol engines?
“Why would phasing out petrol cars be a bad thing?”
Because coercing people into half-baked technology is a bad thing. When alternatives to gasoline become technically and economically competitive, the market will gobble them up. It won’t need the government to force it.
The froggies can plan ahead all they want. In 2040 the muzzies will be the new rulers so all these plans will be trashed and Macron knows it so he will launch such brainfarts for years to come.
Why should government “phase out” any technology at all? It is not their business to force people to buy something they may not want, especially if it’s an Otto-cycle-engine gasoline-burning car they want. Or even an incandescent bulb. Let the market decide. It’s bad enough that the government interferes to the degree that the diesel cars that a sizable number want are forced out of the US market in particular. This “phas(ing) out” by government is all about control and nothing else.
By 2040, the country now known as France will be called whatever the musselmen have named it; the only foods eaten will be halal; and all will hail this first great step into the 7th century ...
