Uh, maybe they should learn to READ some books...
Nice trick for gullible boy friend
She probably used a pellet gun to show him how the book would stop the action.
Then she pulled the old ‘switcheraooooo’
She should be give 10yrs+20grand just for being stooopid, then try her to see if learned anything...
Not my take.
You read that backwards, according to the story, the boyfriend shot the books and convinced the girlfriend to pull the trigger.
If that’s on video, it is just an elaborate Darwin Award nomination. If it isn’t, it is just a story, let a jury determine if she has to go to jail for a decade.
Ruiz is the guy who got shot and who showed her a book he had shot to convince her it was safe because that book wasn't penetrated. It wasn't her idea, it was his. Probably used something similar to get her knocked up the first time.
No, most likely she shot books that were not back stopped by a 160 pound guy holding them to his chest. An un-backstopped book will move a lot more easily WITH the impact of the bullet as the foot-pounds carried by the weight/speed of the bullet are transferred to speed/weight of the book movement, absorbing the kinetic energy moving the 5 to 6 pound encyclopedia volume, most likely enough so the book after being knocked several feet backwards, that when our teenage YouTuber picked it up, the book still had the bullet imbedded pages deep in it.
Mythbusters found that multiple layers of paper could act as an impact absorber, but were far less effective when a hard backing supported the paper. A back stopped book being held in place against a more immovable objectsuch as a massive human body won't move in response to the impact, so the kinetic energy is instead used for penetration. The boyfriend held the book, preventing it from moving, so the bullet was only marginally slowed because little kinetic energy was transferred during its passage through the backstopped, essentially immobile book, leaving lots of foot-pounds to kill the backstop.
