In the early morning hours of June 12, 2016, Tiara Parker of Philadelphia was out on the town but this wasnt just any night out.
She was inside the Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, a place that would become the scene of a mass shooting terrorist attack by 29-year-old Omar Mateen.
On that night, 49 people were murdered and another 58 were wounded in what has been called the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil since the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001.
Parker was with U.S. Sen. Bob Casey in Ardmore Monday morning, speaking on what has become an important issue for her over the past year.
Theres a reason why I am here, Parker said as she spoke beside Casey to a couple of dozen people at Bethel AME Church of Ardmore. Theres a job for me to get done.
Parker and Casey were at the church to announce legislation that would prevent people convicted of a hate crime from purchasing or possession guns.
