A bungee jump instructor has been found guilty of accidental homicide after a teenage Dutch girl misunderstood his terrible English and leapt to her death before the rope was attached was a secure point.
Vera Mol, 17, was killed instantly in August 2015 after leaping off a bridge in northern Spain during an organized bungee jump.
...
She was wearing the bungee harness but the cord was not yet secured when she jumped off the bridge over a gorge in Cabezon de la Sal in Cantabria.
An appeal court in Cantabria heard that she had made the leap on hearing the instructor say No jump but his pronounciation was so bad that she likely thought he said: Now Jump, the judge wrote in a ruling reported by Europapress.

“So do I jump on three?”
“Yes - three.”
“Wheeeeeeeee!”
I knew a guy that would always say “standby” when he was doing something that I had to wait on. At first it really irritated me - who says “standby”? It grew on me though and now I use it - it is very clear. Not something that can be easily misunderstood (did he say no or go? Hold on - go on, etc.) Also meant to stay right there as further instructions would be coming.
LOL, I love Fandango. I have it on DVD but now I have to watch it again.

Why were they talking to a Dutch girl in English???
OK, when I nod my head, you hit it.
Statistically, riding a bicycle is five times more dangerous than bungee jumping. Playing football, ten times more dangerous.
I used to work in television, and the first time somebody said “standby” (in a totally unrelated context, like waiting for coffee) It took me completely by surprise and I was ROFL.
I just watched his flying scene on YouTube after posting that. Great character.
Muhammud asked a German father if he could marry his daughter.
The father said “Nein!” (no)
Muhammud said a nine year old bride is perfect!
Nearly everyone in The Netherlands speaks English. Some speak Dutch, some Frisian and some French. Therefore, everyone speaks English.
LOL...I just added that song to a playlist today! How many here will understand? Old geezers rule.
Such quaint lyrics. Remember what it was about?
If you have not seen the whole movie, its a must see classic. The skydiving scene is great but you appreciate it more in the context of the larger story. It really is both a guy flick and a girl flick.
I went to Airborne School at Ft. Benning and we had a Black Hat who spoke questionable English. He DID know his stuff though and there was a learning curve to get to understand him.
“The day that Vera Mol Cabezon Joe MacAllister jumped off de la Sal Bridge.”
Era el tercer de junio
I’ve seen it, but it’s been a while. The most memorable scene besides that one is the Roman candle fight.
I bungee jumped out of a hot air balloon. What a rush.
I wonder how many people will get that reference?
The bungee line itself is the last thing to be hooked up. It would be quite awkward to handle the harness if it were attached.
As an aging adrenaline junkie I get it and might have done one of these years ago but now, no way. I limit my thrills today to skiing, kayaking and golfing. Fortunately or unfortunately, both of my kids have the adrenaline bug and both did this swing and bungee jump. The safety precautions are quadrupled but nothing is totally fail safe and I made sure they and my wife were aware of that before participating.
