CHICAGO, IL -- An adult live Asian carp was caught about 9 miles from Lake Michigan this week, far north of the leading edge of the invasive fish population in the Illinois River and upstream of an electric barrier designed to keep them from the Great Lakes.
Illinois Department of Natural Resources Asian carp biologist Kevin Irons said the 8-pound, 22-inch silver carp was caught by commercial fishermen in a regular carp monitoring spot on the Little Calumet River about two miles below the T. J. O'Brien Lock and Dam.
It's the second time an adult Asian carp has been caught north of the barriers. A bighead carp was caught in Lake Calumet in 2010.
The fish was caught in a gill net about 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 22 in a marina that carp control agencies monitor because it has the right habitat for Asian carp, Irons said.

They might even be beneficial.
You missed the emerald ash borer and the brown marmorated stink bug.
Seems like you could make a pair of floating nets to pull behind either side of the boat and make a haul to sell for fertilizer.
To #24. Which one is the stinking fish and which one is the mayor, or is there any difference?
Took a cruise from the river works south to calumet river through locks west to the sag and back to the works via the Chicago river all day affair with a group of geographers. Talk about a history cruise.
hmmm. I never considered this but will from now on...they are plagues.
They are already in lake michigan guaranteed
