Two recreational ax-throwing venues opening this summer are trying to prove that Canadian backyard shenanigans can be as popular as bowling and pub darts, with a little more risk.
Its relatively easy, Lalor said. The weight of the ax is actually going to get it into the target fairly easily, so really its just making sure you dont rotate the blade and aim it at the bullseye. Weve had hundreds of thousands of customers, and we dont have a single liability or insurance claim, Zelaya said. An accident would have to be something freakish.

Puts Curling to shame..... I’m in
ROTF! I miss Johnny... :-(
Two things: first, curling is awesome, and second, this looks really cool. I’d watch it. Just goes to show (as does curling) bored guys with alcohol can make a sport out of ANYTHING.
He’s a lumberjack and he’s okay!

If you build it, they will come...
1 spin of the ax, 8-10 ft, 2 spins, 18-20 ft etc. Hold wrist straight and don’t flick it. When axe is above your head, let go.
It’s lots of fun. I have two throwing tomahawks.
When I worked for the Forest Service, we used to throw pulaskis when the boss wasn’t around. It was frowned on, more because of the inevitable broken handles than because of safety concerns. (If you wanted to be safe, you got into another line of work.)
Wow, takes a lot of strength to heave a Pulaski Tool. I’m impressed. How deep did you bury it in the tree?
Just a couple of inches. The technique was to throw it two-handed straight over your head, starting with it hanging down behind you, so not too much sheer strength required. The impetus was mostly from the stomach muscles, some of which I had back then.
You could also throw one-handed underhand, which was much harder to stick. Not only because the throw was much weaker, but the rotation also had to be perfect, so as to hit with the blade but not have the handle hit first and bounce off.
