I had some ideas until you mentioned safe. Just joking. Have a good trip.

At hotels dot com...this looks nice and is on sale for $88 from 114:

Travelodge’s are inexpensive and usually very clean. Ask for non-smoking.

I left Modesto in 2006. It`s a total gang infested shithole.

Not sure if you’re from CA to begin with but it’s hard to find something south of a hundred bills that’s clean and decent. Discount sites will help. There are no hotels way out in the east side of town where your events are.

I might recommend the Ramada Inn on Sisk Rd. for price, location, pool and dining options.

I don’t steer people to anything on West Orangeburg Ave because, although they look good on paper, they get sketchy guests.

The Double Tree downtown is great but pricey.

Anything in the town of Salida is probably good and fairly convenient to the soccer fields.

Btw, we’re 107 today and 111 by Thursday. Hopefully it cools down before your visit. Feel free to run your final choices by me and I’ll help you pick.

Consider staying in Manteca, 20 minutes further north on Hwy 99.

Motel Six is either really bad or pretty bad, but cheap(er).

I stayed in a cheap hotel in Modesto once and got swarmed by bed bugs. Sorry I cant remember hotel name. Was not a big chain but a mom and pop place.
