Crime is allowed and encouraged because there is money in it. Take away the money (welfare) and away go the lawyers, the lawmakers, the police, the social workers, etc. When there is no more money, protecting yourself won’t be seen as taking the food out of the mouths of the lawyers and police. The whole government distribution welfare economy will vanish, including the enablers.
The highest crime in my area is the strip mall where welfare checks are cashed. Coincidence?

I understand your point, but if they’re criminals, why wouldn’t they have some money FROM crime?

No, but that shows they are criminals not that making welfare disappear will make them non-criminals.
