Seems to me that this word perfectly describes the level of expertize that democrats/liberals have when they come up with a solution for a problem. Specifically the part on lack of knowledge.
I learned this word watching GI Jane. The Master Chief called one of the trainees a dilettante when he quit the seal training. Had to look up the word.
The ultimate dilettante, Nancy Pelosi, this morning actually complained that the Republicans were keeping the details of the health care bill secret! Oh, the irony!
