New state Department of Natural Resources data shows Wisconsin's wolf population has grown to around 950 animals The figures from DNR over-wintering monitoring show between 925 and 952 wolves roam the state
MADISON (AP) New data shows Wisconsins wolf population has grown to around 950 animals.
The figures from Department of Natural Resources monitoring show between 925 and 952 wolves roam the state. Thats up about 6 percent from the then-record count of 866 to 897 wolves last winter. The currently population could be higher. Volunteer trackers counted wolves during the winter, when the population reaches its lowest point before pups are born.
Online DNR records show that so far this year theres been 15 confirmed wolf attacks on livestock and one confirmed attack on a hunting dog. The state has paid out $196,397 in wolf damage compensation so far this year. It paid out $200,505 over all of 2016.
The problem in not needing more wolves, decrease the regulations on hunting.
Humans are a far more efficient predator the wolves well ever be.
If they were not then we would not need all the laws protecting animals from them.
Loosen hunting regulations and people well kill more deer.
There hasn’t been a wolf season now for over 3 years in Wis. due to a federal judges ruling out of DC.
The DNR is not taking wolf applications. And most likely those of us with preference points have lost them.
We need a hunt!!!!
Then he got in on the first run a few years back when they first re-opened the season for wolves. Now that you mention it, I DO remember him and a friend complaining about the situation.
