Marlon Brando’s 1972 Mafia Epic The Godfather Is Greatest Movie of All Time, Say 20,000 Film Fans

THE Godfather has pipped The Empire Strikes Back to be voted greatest movie of all time.

The 1972 Mafia epic that starred Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone topped a poll by film mag Empire of 20,000 readers.

At third was Christopher Nolan’s 2008 Batman film The Dark Knight, for which Heath Ledger won an Oscar for his performance as The Joker.

The Shawshank Redemption came fourth, despite often being hailed best-ever film online.

La La Land — released six months ago — came 62nd.

The all-time top ten are as follows:

4. The Shawshank Redemption

5. Pulp Fiction

6. Goodfellas

7. Raiders of the Lost Ark

Brando makes the movie. Ernest Borgnine would have been a joke. One of the Oscars biggest mistakes was awarding him Best Actor for Marty, followed by Best Picture for Shakespeare in Love.

Great choice. The Wizard of Oz (1925), which co-stars Oliver Hardy--before he teamed up with Stan Laurel--is available for free on Youtube.

They picked the wrong LOTR movie to put in there. Return of the King is by far the better movie of the 3.

Never seen The Godfather, have no desire to either. Not a mafia fan.

I’d put Empire at#1 and Star Wars at #2. Thought the Godfather films were gross.

Yes, that was good. I enjoyed it a lot and I still stays with me. However, in today’s culture and tastes, the younger crowd would not appreciate it at all. Shame.
