She struck the ball perfectly, sending it sailing end over end into the red-orange sky. It floated between the posts. And so began the kicking career of Longo, a woman unlike anyone in the history of football.
All that for an extra point! A 200,000 word article about a gal who can kick extra points and an occasional 45 yard field goal playing for Div II, trying to make her out to be the second coming of Mark Mosely . . . sheesh!
In before the Tony Romo jokes.
Yes!!!
Lars must get payed by the word.
I saw the results of U.S. Air Force tests many years ago. They were to determine the average strength of males and females.
The differences were astonishing. Something like half as strong as guys with one exception. Girls had 90% of the leg strength as guys who weighed the same.
No reason a girl could not be a place kicker or short field goal kicker.
No other position even remotely possible.
Comments disabled at the article web site. Hmmm wonder why?
lol
When I applied at the MEPS the AF had to put 100lbs over their head with no problem.
The Navy was at 75. What’s up with that?
It doesn’t go far enough! When will we see handicapped or differently abled people in the NFL? They are so discriminatory. In fact, the whole thing is too dang speciest to me. They need to allow animals to play in the NFL (cue the picture of Vick being attacked by a dog).
Haha call me when Alabama signs its first woman player.
I don’t know.
In the NFL her career would be extinguished with a blown field goal snap and the ball ends up in her hands.
The best college place kicker I ever saw was a woman. She was the soccer goalie one year and switched to football the next. That girl had an incredidle leg.
If she can kick as good as the others, then she can play. Simple as that. Of course, she would probably have to deal with running, tackling, and being tackled.
It’s a cool story. I was in AZ during the Basha’s reign and understand what he did for all athletes. Arizona is a tough environment. I applaud her perseverance to succeed.
There was an extremely pretty girl who was place kicker for a South Georgia high school. She was also a soccer player. Really a blonde bombshell.
Still They did not use her for field goals.
Oh yeah. I forgot about him. Soon, they will have all those brain damaged people playing for them too, so I guess that counts. I stand corrected. Thanks.
Still, the NFL lags behind baseball. There were quite a few people there missing limbs in baseball and they have baseball for the blind and the Indians fielded that midget, or should I say vertically challenged guy, Eddie Gaedel.
