FULL TITLE: Man spots his stolen car being driven through New Jersey then cuts the driver off before viciously beating him in the street
A man who spotted his stolen car on his way to filing a report at the police station chased down the driver and beat him in the street.
The owner was driving a minivan in Bayonne, New Jersey, on Sunday when he spotted his stolen Honda Civic on the road and started following it, police said.
The owner eventually cut in front of Ephraim Diaz, who was behind the wheel of his car, and beat him in the street in a vicious confrontation captured on film.

Sorry, that's not from last year, but data for 2013, the article is 2014. I mistook today's date on the top of the linked page for the actual article date.
On the plus side, the Albuquerque metro area (where I live) tops the per-capita theft rate for the U.S.
I know a guy who lost two cars within two months doing the same stupid thing (leaving car running and running back into the house). You'd think he'd have learned after the first one went bye-bye. He was lucky enough to actually retrieve the second one.
“...it came out with its equally horrible diesels.”
Lol!!! A close friend had one of those. He used to leave the doors unlocked, windows down, and keys in the ignition. No takers. On the plus side, the car did have one good feature when running: if there was an obnoxious tailgater, all a person had to do was floor it. The car wouldn’t really go much faster, but it would spew out billowing clouds of black diesel smoke, reducing visibility for the tailgater down to nothing.
My Lincoln has code keys on the door, so I don’t have that problem. I can leave it running the A/C during the summer and go into the post office, Qwik Mart or whatever...............
My MIL had an diesel Oldsmobile station wagon, rode in it once. Chevy Vega, I learned how to drive a stick making a 50 mile round trip, clutch was already going out, I undoubtdly helped it along in it’s demise. Neither of these vehicle would have made GM proud.

Accord #1 and Civic #2 for 8 years running.
If someone were to try to jimmy the door or break the glass and open it from the inside, would it set off the alarm or disable the car?
Why are they being stolen?
Looks like BMW, Mercedes and a few other top luxury cars would be their targets......................
LOL, the very friend with that Vega also got an early eighties Oldsmobile sedan with a diesel in it that was one of the most abject lemons I have ever seen, even to this day!
You sure do know of which you speak!
I really wanted the 1976 Pinto Sport Wagon with full instrumentation,V6 ,etc that was on a consignment lot about 1985. Low miles, ran great, spotless. Someone else got it and totalled it soon after. That little wagon could go!
Yes, the car alarm will go off, horn beeping incessantly, lights flashing, etc. Plus the car engine would shut off............
170,000 miles on it.
Great car!
Parts. With so many of them on the road, they can get up to 3 times the actual car value by parting out a stolen vehicle.

I was actually thinking of buying a Honda car.
Perhaps not, now...............
Sounds like the deer won the battle....
Didn’t we use to hang horse thief’s?
All the cops would have done was tell the owner to contact his insurance company. Car theft is no more important than heisting a bag of Skittles.
Yeah. I was doing 75 mph when I hit it. Actually was probably fixable but ins. Co. Just totaled it.
At 75mph you are lucky to be alive....if that deer hit the windshield...Bye Bye Eagle6
Guy at work, a farmer built like a tractor, was badly hurt when one came through his windshield.
Here in PA they're everywhere.
Almost hit one the day after the accident in my rental car!
I have a herd in my front lawn every day here in Georgia.....
