Yikes! That could start one of those hellacious range fires that killed ranchers and cattle this spring in the TX Panhandle. Collecting a couple of thousand dollars a year to have a turbine on your place might turn out to be a poor choice if the equipment fails this way.

Frickin vertical video. Why can’t people learn how to hold their smartphones?

I would like to propose Hollywood put on a Vertical Video Film Festival.

How the Hell does the blade catch fire to begin with? Isn’t this just an engine trouble issue?

Probably more pollution in one hour from the burning wind turbine than a coal fired power plant would produce in a week. LOL

It will cost a ton of money to repair it and who knows how much downtime.

... but officials are still working to determine what caused it.

Maybe it got too hot. ;-)

Given that the orientation of the wind turbine is decidely vertical, it might not have been the best time for a landscape photo.

The blades are hollow, probably just acting like a smoke stack from the motor.

Thank goodness it happened now instead of in a few weeks when the grasses have dried up.

Bearings need lube.

That's my prediction, too. With all the dust kicked up by prairie wind storms, I'm sure there's a lot of preventive maintenance required on those turbines.

The Russians did it!
They also ate the strawberries and threw the palm tree over board!

A few years ago, I watched a turbine like that catch fire in Palm Springs. The whole thing fell burning to the ground and started a nasty brush fire that swept across the desert for 6 miles!

Another article said the local volunteer fire company made the decision to let the fire burn itself out.

What else would you do?

“Hey Colton, why don’t y’all try to shimmy that pipe with a hose and see if you can put that little fire out?”
