As night falls on West Hollywood the LA County Department of Public Health is shedding light on the unusual spread of meningitis among gay men.
Darren Bitonio says he recently got vaccinated for the rare disease that can cause brain damage or even death. And it can be spread by saliva.
I am a guy. Just for extra protection, he told KCAL 9s Jeff Nguyen.
Since last year LA County has had 29 cases of meningitis 10 involve gay men.
The Department of Public Health believes only about a third of the community has been vaccinated.
The hope is that more gay people will learn about the uptick in the disease during LA Pride.
...
During the march streets will be closed between Hollywood and Highland and West Hollywood Park.
Until then, one group changed the street lights to spread a message of inclusion during Pride.
No matter who you are. No matter what you believe, you should walk proud, says Jana Pinkosky.
Activism is also the goal of a van spreading awareness of protecting yourself against HIV.
But Biotonio says the LGBTQ community shouldnt stop there.
Thats the main topic, its HIV, but [people] never bring up meningitis, he says.

Something very much Darwinian about that. But then, as practicing and devoted homosexuals, they are already removed from the gene pool....
Maybe like when lemmings have too high a population concentration, they are committing a sort of mass suicide, migrating off the side of a cliff.
The truth is out of the closet about sexual perversion and disease. But since it’s been declared normal to the point that it’s being taught at the pre-school level there’s not much we can do about it.
It’s like terrorist mass murders, it’s just something we’re going to have to live (?) With.

I lean strongly libertarian and believe that what folks do in privacy is their concern - so long as it stays private.
But....I depart from one strain of libertarianism that believes the government has no role in public health. Given that far more people in history have died from communicable diseases than from war, I do believe that public health is an essential function of government, and that when someone spreads a deadly disease he has lost his right to privacy from government intrusion.
I think it’s just getting physically intimate with a lot of people who have been physically intimate with a lot of other people, etc. This strain of meningitis also spreads among residents on college campuses. It’s still quite rare, but almost always fatal.
No more Mickey D, no more BK. Chik-fil-a only!
Meningitis is a result of meninanus.
Its a particular sub-population of gay men, Gladstein said.
From the LA Times.
I think Wendy's and Hardees and Arbys are still okay.
I laugh at the homos who chose their pride moment to coincide with islam’s ramadan shindig. It’s as lame as dumb-assed potheads choosing hitler’s birthday for their 420 day.
Homos, potheads, and islam: the barack homobama trifecta.
I believe that you’re correct. I eat at fast food places a couple times a year and chik-fil-a is one that I see but I’ll keep the others on my radar.
Why do gays have such high rates of STDs? They spend too much time at the waste dump, and they have great difficulty remaining monogamous thus the spread of diseases that NORMAL people are a able to avoid.
Thanks, guys.
Pride in being a disease vector. It is indeed a mental illness!
That is the key word. Like drug addiction and alcoholism, if you don't do the behavior you will not get the "disease".
I recently lurked in a faggot website (for research purposes) on an article called “Are you clean?” The infighting over asking that question of a potential sex partner was over the top. The article’s author (who was HIV positive, of course) contended it was INAPPROPRIATE TO ASK THIS QUESTION OF SEX PARTNERS!!!!!
I’m happy to watch them die of the most painful diseases with that attitude.
Meningitis. And then there’s syphilis (the drug-resistant kind) and then there’s gonorrhea (the drug-resistant kind) and then there’s.....
Didn't you get the memo? It's all our fault. It will always be all our fault.
Should be OUR march slogan.
