WASHINGTON Vice President Mike Pence's wife, Karen, has installed a beehive on the grounds of their government residence in Washington.
Mrs. Pence says honey bees play an important role in agricultural production in the United States.
She says one out of every three bites of food consumed in the U.S. are made possible with the help of pollinators such as bees, butterflies, birds and bats. But managed bee colonies are in decline, posing a challenge to agricultural production.
The Pence's beehive has 15,000 to 20,000 honey bees, including the queen bee.
Mrs. Pence says honey the bees produce will be given away as gifts.

Congratulations. I’ve kept bees for over 40 years including several as a full time commercial beekeeper.
20000 bees? That sounds really dangerous! I hope somebody does something about it.
Mormon dog whistle! Alert the enemedia!
We don't have one but I do plant for bees and butterflies, so do have frequent flybys and our guests don't seem to mind.
I am also raising chickens.
I two teenage boys. I figure I can teach them all about the birds and the bees this way.
If it’s a hornets’ nest, they can’t be “trained” for much but chasing down their victims.
Good for emergency crowd control too. “We are Antifa-aaaaaaaah, bees!”
We had a bad winter in our neck of the woods. We know a few beekeepers, and they said their hives got hammered.
Don’t you just love the way the Ass Press (AP) calls their home “...their government resident in Washington,” not the official vice-president’s residence on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Observatory?
DO NOT wear any dark colors around them, and DO NOT use any type of weed wacker around there-lawn mowers included.
They will get to know you, believe it or not.
And expect to get nailed once in a while.
If McConnell and Ryan come to visit and refuse to pass the Trump agenda, I hope the bees sting McConnell and Ryan in their GOPe buttocks.
The other queen bee lost the election. HA!
My first Beehive community meeting is next week.
Is there much buzz about the meeting.
Bet it kept away the Census takers though.
My Dad and brother keep bees and I always get a pint of honey from them and use for allergies.
