Trump Faces the Fury of a Scorned Ruling Class

A lobbyist friend who visited Capitol Hill recently came away horrified. “I now am ready to believe that the partisanship is so unhinged that it’s a threat to the Republic,” she writes in an email.

This Washington hysteria comes at a time of full employment, booming stocks, relative peace and technological marvels like an electronic robot named Alexa who fetches and plays for you songs of your choice. What’s the fuss about?

We all know the answer: Donald Trump. The Washington body politic has been invaded by an alien presence and, true to the laws of nature, that body is feverishly trying to expel it. These particular laws of nature demand rejection of anything that threatens the livelihoods and prestige of the permanent governing class.

The “threat” that has Washington quaking is the first serious effort in a long time to curb federal regulatory power, wasteful spending, and a propensity to run up mountainous budget deficits and debt. That’s presumably what the voters wanted when they elected Donald Trump. Democrats—accurately regarded as the party of government—seem to fear that Mr. Trump might actually, against all odds, pull it off.

A friend of mine posted more advice to Trump on Twitter today saying he needs to moderate his views.

We’ve been arguing all night. He claims Reagan moderated in the face of a hostile press.

Reagan had Sam Donaldson and a few more. Trump has virtually everyone. They hate the fact that he’s alive and President when Clinton was immaculated to win.

Beave, these elites in D.C. are putting themselves under such intense psychological and emotional strain that some of them are going to start breaking. They may get themselves hospitalized and/or institutionalized, or arrested. I deeply hope that President Trump fully understands the depths of the black hearted hatred coming at him from Congress and Congressional staff members, and that he will shrug it off and laugh at them while they implode.

Same here and it's not just because my 401(k) and stocks are up some 15% since November. I think there are some fundamental changes for the better that will continue to unfold for years after Trump leaves office (hopefully not until 2025). Remember the Reagan revolution and the great boom of the 1980s did not become apparent until after Reagan had been in office for well over a year.

I was a young man when Reagan took office in 1981 and I've been kicking myself for decades that I didn't invest more money back then instead of chasing women around in fast cars. Well I have no excuse this time. I'm married and I drive around in a boring sedan.
