His death comes just two months after the Allman Brothers Band co-founder cancelled all tour dates for the year.

He 'passed away peacefully' at his home in Savannah, Georgia on Saturday, according to a statement on the singer's website.

The father-of-five was married five times, including to the singer Cher - the father of his son Elijah Blue Allman.

I heard the crowd was 100,000 but.... As recalled by NOLA.com commenter nattyfred, the Louisiana Superdome's first concert was dubbed the "Pride of Dixie" and featured The Marshall Tucker Band, Wet Willie and The Charlie Daniels Band, as well as the Allmans. According to a story on The Gambit website: "The Allman Brothers later sued ... claiming the band did not receive money for more than 25,000 tickets sold." The Times-Picayune's John Alan Simon reported that the audience numbered 80,000. A 1979 Times-Picayune story lists the attendance as 55,000.

I liked the band, but his hippie followers seemed to be extra smelly and burnt. I left Red Rocks and couldn’t wait to take a shower.

Thanks for the pictures. Brings back memories. Greg Allman was a unique talent. I saw the Allmans many times including one time in 1970 when they opened for an underground band at the time called Pink Floyd. Greg also had a laid back way of playing that Hammond that was cool. RIP Greg.
