They are killing off the Varsity program. It isn’t really that bad. LDS kids hated it anyway. The politics of this has more to do with the fact there is a serious imbalance of education money spent between boys 14 to 18 and girls 14 to 18 programs.
LDS is most certainly looking for a way to shake lose of the BSA, but they don’t have a suitable replacement with the cache of Eagle Scout at the end of any other alternative. 14 to 18 for both girls and boys in the LDS church is going to get a big makeover. This frees up cash for that.
They are dropping Venturing, too. I have no idea how popular Venturing is with LDS Scout’s, but it’seems more focused on high adventure.
