Give me a break. His music is way ahead of Michael Bolton and Rod Stewart, both of whom sound like they’ve gargled with razor blades and always look like they’re totally whipped. I’m not sure how either of them ever earned even a dime in the music business.
Billy Joel’s lyrics are very understandable and well thought out.
Agree
The writer has obviously never seen Billy Joel live or has seen or heard Bruce Springsteen. Besides being a Hillary loving idiot, Springsteen is quite possibly the least talented musician out there.
Had the opportunity to interview Joel about 7 years ago for my “Seven Events” book. Good interview. He & Keith Emerson were the only 2 of maybe 100 rockers I interviewed who did not cite the Beatles as their reason for getting into rock.
Rod Stewart can be a very schmaltzy, lounge type of performer, with his double-breasted dinner jackets and open collars, but he has great back up musicians.
Next time you have a minute, listen to a recording of his 1974 hit “Maggie May”. Try to imagine hearing it without the vocals. The musicianship is outstanding, tight, spirited and very much the work of Scots or Irishmen. Clearly the work of professionals, not a garage band at all. At least not by that stage in their careers. The group may have included members of the Small Faces.
Billy Joel is right about at Springsteen level for me. When the radio in the car starts one of eithers’ songs, it takes me less that one second to punch the button to change the station. Now I agree with you on Bolton and most of Stewart except I attended a concert in the San Diego Sports Arena in 1968 and the middle act was the Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart and they just killed it. “Shapes of Things” and “Ain’t Superstitious” still flow through my head sometimes.
I agree 100%. Both Bolton and Stewart suck IMHO, and you can throw Springsteen in the same dumpster with the other two.
I think he’s a poet...I love his work.
The ‘timeless,” as in he is STILL around and how did he get here in the first place, singer I think is the worst is Springsteen. OMG, it hurts to listen to him. He does have a good backup band, and is a good showman, however. I’ll give him that. But, omg, that voice! Hurts just to think about.
