A judge on Tuesday erased former NFL star Aaron Hernandezs conviction in a 2013 murder because Hernandez died before his appeal was heard.
Hernandez, who had been a standout tight end for the New England Patriots before his arrest, hanged himself in his jail cell on April 19. He was serving a life sentence in the killing of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd, and his suicide came just five days after he was acquitted in a different double slaying in 2012.

“If that is all you have to do to beat a murder rap, everyone will be doing it.”
“All” means the murderer has to kill himself, saving taxpayers’ money?
Nope, I believe this is the result of an old law designed to protect people in a different situation. But really who cares? His Wiki page will still show his conviction and the erasure of it. History is what it is.

Aaron Hernandez is still dead, I assume. That’s what really matters.
It’s wrong to call his death a suicide the since he cannot testify to that event. < /sarc>
Saint Tray-Von learned a bit about ballistics in his short time on earth.

So in other words this DAMNED judge thinks the Patriots should have to pay his contract even though he IS A MURDERER!!! These judges HAVE TO GO!!!!
That is the whole point of this exercise.
There is a little quirk in the law that says if your appeal is in motion and you die, then you are not convicted.
It may seem like a minor point but there may be considerable financials involved. They lawyers must not have gotten their hands on all of it yet.
Didn’t the POS, leave note to finacee: *You are gong to be rich*?
Its a standard law in MA. I don’t know how many other states have it. It is exactly the opposite: Because he died before the appeal he was not given a full appeal which is guaranteed in all murder cases in MA.
Odin evidently killed himself, just like Aaron.
No, but he does get a pro-bowl bid, albeit second team.
I would imagine if there were guaranteed money, they might have a case. My guess is that they will sit all of the parties down and come to a settlement.
Florida Memorial University will probably award him an honorary doctorate in criminal justice posthumously.
Hernandez was under contract with the Patriots at the time of his arrest. The Patriots cut him and withheld $6M in signing bonuses due to his felony conviction. Morality clause in his contract, I guess.
Now he's not convicted of anything, so his heirs feel entitled to that money.
I think it stinks, but that's the legal system for ya.
His victims' families will be after that cash too, so lots of lawyers will get rich.
Odin’s mom shared her feeling on TV. It was heartrending.
There is a rather interesting situation with who receives and who has to pay out money. I can care less but I feel sorry for his children and victims families.
I believe it's at the Judge's discretion to vacate a conviction when the perp dies before the appeal can be heard, but in cases where the perp takes his own life, I believe the conviction should stand. But who am I? Not a lib Judge, that's for sure.
I bet it was hard to watch. Poor thing.
