Ha. I just now got an email about this.

I have noticed some of the younger kids discovering the music we all grew up with.
A friends youngest son, now 23, just got back from an overseas trip. His band toured Japan, Taiwan and some other places.
They’re basically a cover band that plays some of their own music thats based on the Beatles, Stones and other “classic rock” groups.
They played to crowds ranging from 2000 to 5000 people.
According to him the crowds loved the old rock and were appreciative of their original songs.
Maybe channels dedicated to the old groups will get more young people interested in real music instead of that damned rapcrap.
Just now got the same e-mail.
Great. Thanks for the info.
If I ever ‘graduate’ from terrestrial to Satelite, I will look her up. We’re losing most of our personal advice and helping shows, at least here in the Bay Area.Ca. I mainly just don’t want to pay for it, or keep having to look for it.
There used to be lots of shows giving advice on gardening, car maintenance and of course, family problems. Now, Cumulus has either killed of scattered the shows so much, that I can’t find them any more. After a few months of playing ‘keep away’ one just loses interest and learns to live without that particular radio friend.
All music gets "dated" once there is a great expanse of time between when the music was produced and today. I am sure some would consider your favorite music from the 80's and 90's dated. The question is whether something old has enough quality to be considered classic or timeless. I think some of the music of The Beatles is certainly classic and timeless. Some of their songs are so well written they can work in several musical genres.
I don't know if music is ever truly dated. It depends on whether it speaks to us in some way. I was a huge Beatles fan from the mid-60's through the 80's. Now, I don't listen to them very often; and if I do, I almost never listen to the really early "yeah, yeah, yeah" stuff. I have reached a point in which music that I listened to as a youth holds very little appeal for me now. I don't listen to The Beatles, or the Stones or The Who either.
Most of my music listening time is spent with Classical music or singers like Sinatra or Ella Fitzgerald. A couple of nights ago my wife and I watched a video of a concert featuring Max Raabe and the Palast Orchester in a program of music that was popular during the Weimar Republic in Germany in the 20's and 30's. It is certainly old music, and Max Raabe's singing recalls crooners like Rudy Vallee; but I found it very entertaining. I guess I have reached a point where I feel I have outgrown music I listened to when I was younger. Now if I do listen to the Beatles, et al, it is for a nostalgia trip.
I’ve wanted one of those Lennon Les Pauls for a long time.
Thank you very much now you made me waste an hour reading up on Mr. O’Boogie online and I missed a meeting
:)
I don’t like all these channels dedicated to specific Rock & Roll groups or artists. There are enough. At the same time they are doing this, they are cutting back on the classical selections. They also tried to get rid of the gospel channel at one point. And I was upset when they got rid of the Latin Jazz channel about 8 years ago. I guess I’m one of those subscribers who is out of step with the rest of the audience. I don’t want 100 channels of Rock & Roll and Rap. But this is a battle I’m going to lose.
Luna, Sirius XM 2.0, channel 530.
I know what you mean. No real classic country like Ernest Tubb, Spade Cooley or Gene Autry, or real alt-country like Texas Tornados, Mavericks, BR-549 or Kinky Friedman.
It will fail. It was tried with an Elvis Station years ago. Now with YouTube anyone can listen to the Beatles 24/7. Plus, they get to create their own play list.
Radio is having a hard time keeping listeners.
10 years ago, Luna used to be on the radio. Now its just an internet station. When I first got XM, I loved it. Now it seems like its completely dominated by Baby Boomers who want a constant diet of 60s and 70s Rock. Nothing wrong with that genre, but can’t we get a little more variety with 100 stations? I wrote emails to them when they canceled stations I liked. I get the impression they have my name on an “old fuddy-duddy” list.
Willie’s Roadhouse on Sirius satellite. They play the classic country. I listen to that almost exclusively.
Willies Road House is on channel 59... Agreed, Great channel!
Grand ‘ol Opry, and plenty of old classic tunes...
They also tried to do away with the 1940s station but got a ton of grief. I was one of those who gave them some. I was born decades after that but I love music from that decade.
Too much ‘60s and ‘70s and not much alt-, Cowboy or Western Swing during daytime work hours. Opry and Cowboy are great, but late at night.
More than a few Beatles songs on youtube including special remixes by the likes of Rhythm Scholar got thrown off due to copyright infringement. But there is a Beatles On Vevo channel on youtube with some but not all of their stuff.Solo songs may all still be on Youtube though
I'm hoping that a Bob Dylan cover channel comes out soon. Dylan songs have been covered thousands of times and a lot of great material out there.
:-)
