some folks recover without any issues- many do not though- several people in my neck of woods have suffered terribly- one had to have antibiotics pumped straight into heart- caused all kinds of problems for her- She’s had it twice now- nearly disabled from it- looks liek an old lady but she’s fairly young- 50’s

We had a couple of guineas after our neighbors abandoned them. They really kept the ticks down.

Fascinating creatures (the fowl). They pair up and protect each other. I did not think they would last a week with all the hawks and foxes around (regular chickens don't last very long in our neck of the woods), but we had them around for almost half a year. Finally, a raccoon got one (devilish critter did not even eat the bird) and then the mate was helpless.

Also, we found out that guineas are not good parents. They hatch a bunch of chicks and then leave them alone.

also be aware that the old “It takes 72 hours of a tick taking blood to become infected’ claim is no longer valid- researchers have found it happens in under 12 hours- maybe even a lot sooner- young ticks carry it too- and they are nearly impossible to see they are so small-

Had one embedded a few years back (probably have had lots more and never realized it- as I was avid outdoorsman)- turned all red- but no bullseye pattern- have been tested but nothing showed up- but lyme and other tick bourne viruses are very hard to diagnose- -

Great0- now I’m itching all over lol

Thank you for that information.

I read somewhere that deer ticks are not as ambitious as the other ticks, so they will usually be found on the legs below the underwear line rather than on the higher parts of the body.

Maybe you need to start hanging out with different women. This woman lives nature and is pretty girly about quite a few things, but I would not get hysterical about your suggestion.

“I read somewhere that deer ticks are not as ambitious as the other ticks, so they will usually be found on the legs below the underwear line rather than on the higher parts of the body.”

That may be true, but I pulled one off my upper chest the other night. If they are traveling from the ground up they may not usually make it that high, but if your dog sleeps on your bed with you, like our Sheltie does, than they have free reign to travel wherever they want on you....

Isn’t that “hanta” and not “hunta”?

Dog in our bed? Ew! No. That’s what dog beds are for.

“Shelter Island, NY has the highest rate of Lyme disease in the country”

Sad to hear-—it is a beautiful place.

Yes.... it’s ‘hantavirus’. Very very nasty stuff and can be fatal. For the record, in the past, infections in humans has almost, always been the result of contact with mice (and other rodents) poop. However, there have been recent occasions where the infection has been traced back to human to human contact...... just another reason why I think the word ‘abomination’ is the most appropriate one to use when defining what homos do sexually.

It's springtime ... time for another "sky-is-falling" apocalyptic disease to emerge and threaten all of humanity.

Legionnaires' Disease
Lyme Disease
Seasonal Affective Disorder
Swine Flu
Bird Flu
Tortoise Flu
Necrotizing Fasciitis
Ebola
Hillary ...

Some people - and I was one of them for a while - develop an immune reaction that kills ticks when they bite.

That might actually be a more promising investigation than trying to develop vaccines for all the tick-borne illnesses. Lyme disease itself does not prevent a second infection, so that vaccine was pretty worthless.

When I was a child - no deer, no ticks. I spent my childhood playing in the woods. One wood tick bite.

I wonder if the deer ticks are now so prevalent and adapted that they would survive without deer hosts.

Experts don’t yet have a handle on how many people have actually become infected with the virus, since the current stats are based on people who developed severe disease.

“It’s quite possible that many, many more are infected and not identified because their symptoms are mild,” said Ann Powers, chief of virology activity in the arboviral diseases branch at the CDC.

Got Lyme in spring of 91. Diagnosed in fall of 92. Inadequate treatment. Found Lyme literate Doc in 93. Treated with every known combo for decade plus. Dosage to conservative at first but new patient/disease. Forced to retire in 99 and under symptomatic treatment since but no antibiotics. Very debilitating mentally and physically.
Have been considered “unfixable” for years but am getting some relief through acupuncture. And it is deer mice not deer that carry the ticks. They (ticks) like to travel on migrating birds - think robins. A fair number of sufferers got the disease while gardening. Lots of issues like number of ticks transmitted, your tissue type, course of abx treatment and unreliable testing and poor timing. Good luck!
