I do see where Delanos were originally from Massachusetts, which could make them Puritans and not Dutch.
And I note where their famous descendants with Dutch names were Episcopalian.
So, just guessing here, maybe religion was not a strong factor in their lives?
Another interesting to note is where *some* Americans turned toward and became friendly with Japan, others like Warren Delano and his descendants became much more attached to China.
Of course from our current perspective in 1857, both are very remote, but we have to wonder if it will make a big difference in, oh, say, approximately 80 years?
