One can assume by the use of the word “unprecedented” that this has never happened before. I’m curious how the biologist would know this since these killer whales have been around for thousands of years.

For starters, Monterey Bay has one AWESOME aquatic ‘museum’ so I can feel their pain. Been there a number of times. I hope the Sea Otters are OK, but, to Oceanic Killers, they ARE just food...
These are WILD ANIMALS we’re dealing with here. They TAKE ADVANTAGE of feeding where & when they can. If you try to ‘humanize’ them, you’re wasting your time.
‘Circle of Life’ and all that. If you’re not a Predator, You. Are. Prey. Simple logistics as old as Time. ;)

I have been on the water there. Monterey bay is a great ambush sight for Killer Whales. They kill their every year.
