In theory, two intelligent people who disagree on something, should be able to discuss the matter and resolve the issue. In practice, I have (to my dismay) found this not to be the case. Some people seem never to learn from experience. For example, no matter how consistently liberal economic policies fail, progressives continue to believe that by doing the same thing repeatedly, they will get a different result.
There are too many anecdotes to recount here, but two of them, from my personal experience, should suffice.
I was employed in an office with mostly liberal coworkers. About two or three days before the Thanksgiving Day holiday, a charming young lady called to make airline reservations for the day before the event. When told (over the telephone) the price, she seemed horrified. I could not of course hear the other end of the conversation, but she asked, what gives you the right to charge so much just because its a holiday?
I would have stayed out of it, but the lady asked me directly, what I thought of, in her term, airline price gouging. I briefly tried to explain to her that if the airline charged the everyday price, the flight would have been booked solid weeks before, and she would still not be able to fly. She rejected that reply. Even when another office worker (a liberal who had voted for Al Gore for president!) explained the matter to her, it was all to no avail. The lady just felt that somehow, some way, the airlines could provide unlimited numbers of seats at the off-season price, to the destination she desired. I am sure that she still feels that way. Oh, the unfairness of it all!

They’re definitely not HOPEFULLY irrational.
They are mostly insane though a few are uninformed. The rest are criminal minded.
What passes for liberalism is animal consciousness, the alternative to God consciousness. It is a “lost in sin” condition. Evidence is most obvious in those who curse God and slander Christ. These are demonic influences.
Yes.
We may one day find leftist liberal progressives (by their definition) are actually aliens from an alternate universe, a really goofy one, with an entirely different thought process that does not allow them to understand basic common sense or simple logic.
Heck; I’m already convinced.
Yes. Next topic.
In this case, I would've aksed the woman, "If you owned an airline, is that how you would run it?"
Regardless of how she answered, I would just say, "Ah", and go back to work.
It is a shame that, unfortunately, aliens is a more logical answer than the truth...
emotionalism + evasion + anti-reality = libtardism
Follow closely the socialist policies at play in California. Watch the gas tax and the cigarette tax. The first will push many gas stations near the border into financial problems, and the second will create a smuggling industry.
I do agree that airlines should have more aircraft. If daily flight are packed then holidays are going to be a nightmare. I know there is extra costs to additional aircraft but the current “just in time plane” strategy is stupid.
In a word, yes.
I used to think that it was wrong to “feel” about an issue, that only what one “thinks” about an issue matters. I now understand that without “gut feel” one would never be able to make a decision. Nevertheless, I swear these people have no rational side at all, nothing BUT their feelings. And that’s a mess.
A finely honed sense of entitlement, plus a lifetime almost completely devoid of any kind of critical thinking or understanding the relationship of cause and effect, can end up with this “2 + 2 = 7” equation, of which any home-schooled youngster could immediately see the fallacy.
Not so sure about a lot of government-schooled kids, though, of whom this poor misguided lady is almost surely a product.
She would have been more intellectually astute if she had been raised by wolves.
Yes, they love evil more than good because their deeds are evil. They have burned their conscience and remain in the prison cells of Satan, deniers of God and His Word. And they will be judged by Him they deny, Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour of all who believe Him as the Way and the truth and the life.
Their end is known of God and judged by Jesus Christ whom they hate.
Most are abject imbeciles who do the dirty work for the others who are just plain evil
I like your description the best.
I suggest that both many progrssives and many conservatives are irrationa, and with the same variety of bad thought processes.
False pre-supposition, logical conclusion is by far the most common. You see this in wife beating questions the media asks of conservatives.
Guilt by association on top of bogus start. Richard Spencer has not denounced some obscure racist nobody ever heard of. Bannon did not censor Spencer. Trump hired Bannon. Therefore Trump is a racist. Guilt by association almost always has an early pre-supposition that is suspect.
Guilt by role. It is the duty of an attorney to represent his client and the best interests of his client. The left holds it against a Republican who was a lawyer for a businessman. The right holds it against a Democrat who was a lawyer for a street gang member.
Proof by anecdote. Too many anecdotes to recite.
Proof by statistics. Too many to recite.
Refusal to admit the sausage factory. Reagan had two priority goals and many lesser goals as president. In the Grand Compromise Reagan and Speaker Tip O’Neil made a deal. Tip would allow Reagan to cut taxes and defeat Communism. In turn Reagan would let the Democrats spend like drunken ... like Drunken Democrats.
So Reagan’s Supply Side Tax Cut greatly increased tax revenue. But the combination of increased defense spending and Drunken Democrat spending exceeded the increased tax revenue and Reagan had budget deficits.
The left conveniently ignores the increased spending and claims that Supply Side tax cuts don’t work because there was a deficit under Reagan.
Many Bush type Republicans don’t want to admit Voodoo tax cuts work. So they don’t want the truth of the Reagan era to be spread.
And those who do support Supply Side tax cuts don’t want the name of Reagan sullied by a Compromise ... let alone the Grand Compromise.
There are many other styles of irrational argument.
Can anyone make a factual, logical case for Repeal of the Law of Supply and Demand when it comes to Global Trade or Immigration? Nobody has made one yet.
From Smoot Hawley to Bush II sheet steel every single anecdote says attempts to repeal the law of supply and demand have failed.
Recent immigrants (legal and illegal), especially Hispanics, did not create the defects in our legal system. They did not create our welfare system. Yet they are blamed for our current situation that we older Americans created.
There is a big difference between immigrants who work and those who collect welfare and/or rape and steal. Yet some Populists illogically lump them all together.
Conclusion. None of us are perfect. Yes, The Left is illogical. But we should be careful before we embarrass ourselves with hypocrisy.
