UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. -- Police are investigating a tragedy where a woman was attacked and killed by her own dog in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County.
It happened before 1:30 p.m. Thursday on Spring White Drive.
Police say the woman, believed to be in her 30's, was attacked by her dog on the rear deck of her home.
She was taken to Lehigh Valley Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Bangkok - A golden retriever mauled its Thai master to death after allegedly enduring years of abuse, media reports said Sunday.
Mana Tesrit, 51, died in hospital Saturday after being savaged by his 3-year-old dog at his home in Sattahip district of Chonburi province, 120 kilometres east of Bangkok, The Nation newspaper reported.
Mana’s wife Sompong Rodkhlam told police that the dog, named Peter, may have attacked her husband because he had kicked and abused it since it was a puppy.
Sompong was out of the house at the time of the attack, which was witnessed by neighbours.

One atypical case only means there are exceptions. Pits are a small portion of the dogs out there, and account for a hugely disproportionate number of serious dog maulings.

As a practical matter, how do you tell the difference between a Bull Terrier and a Pit Bull?
Give me one of the children of one of these pit bull haters during the child’s formative years, and I’ll turn him into a stone-cold murdering savage. Well, I wouldn’t, but I could. So maybe we should put down all that guy’s children? That’s their argument.
They look nothing alike, for starters.

Bull Terriers are a Dolichocephalic breed, having a long head, which is described as either ovoid or ‘egg shaped’.
“Pit Bulls” [no such official “breed”, really] are Brachycephalic and their skull is relatively broad and short.
(typically with the breadth at least 80% of the length)
The only vague similarity is the short, stocky body.
“Pit Bulls” were really created mixtures of Staffordshire Terriers [American or English] combined with other breeds.
People who put sweaters on dogs deserve what they get.
