“assault”? Why? Did she hit the man? Menacing ‘maybe’, but not assault surely?

Assault is threatening, battery is the injury part. You will get arrested for threatening battery with a weapon in this situation, which is assault.

ok thanks- looked it up - seems that no verbal threat is necessary- as long as the defendant ‘felt threatened’- which covers quite a bit i guess-

law a : a threat or attempt to inflict offensive physical contact or bodily harm on a person (as by lifting a fist in a threatening manner) that puts the person in immediate danger of or in apprehension (see apprehension 1) of such harm or contact — compare battery 1b
