The world’s population has doubled since 1969. The percentage of Evil folks is likely the same, but there are twice as many now, and we get to hear about ALL of them nowadays.
But our culture is so much more inclined to poor behavior today.
Way back when, everybody was on the family farm until you died, and everybody in the family knew exactly what everybody else was up to. Ditto for small town life where everybody knew everybody. This close association restricted criminal opportunity and when people conducted criminal behavior, they were outed about town almost immediately.
Today, we are so mobile and spread out all over the country, anonymity gives criminals and evil people a myriad of constant opportunity, and they often don’t get caught or “outed” for quite a while. Even when they get caught, you still don’t know all the instances where they get away with it.
Now add to this the fact that many don’t believe in Hell today when they did way back when. Having your everlasting soul confined to eternal damnation in Hell was quite a disincentive for many, many people. Even criminal types and evil types.
It is different today. Our culture makes it far easier to misbehave and to get away with it when you do. I am not saying human nature changes, so you are probably right that the ratio of good and evil people in society is probably similar today as it was 100 years ago. The thing is, culture has changed and that is causing a lot more of the evil people and the “well everybody does it” crowd to behave badly, or at least worse than ever before.
