According to the Miami Herald and Bloomberg, Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria has reached an agreement to sell the Marlins to the Bush-Jeter group after their bid won the auction ahead of other potential buyers for exclusive negotiating rights.

Don’t let the door hit you on the ass Loria! Take your billions and leave.
Good luck to Jeter and Bush. A ball player owning the Marlins is sweet.
Bush, well maybe this is something he will get right.
Either way, Loria needed to sell and leave.

1.3 billion for the Marlins? The value of virtually every other team in MLB just went up significantly.

His outlook on immigration will serve him well.

I guess Mattingly may still be safe with Jeter in the owner’s suite.

The new owner group will commence whining about needing taxpayer-funded improvements to the 5 year old Marlins Park (financed, designed, & constructed in an absolutely corrupt manner) in 3, 2, 1...

Signed,
ex-Chargers fan

Bought by Jeb Bush, an even bigger douchebag than Loria, and that takes some doing.

This is robbery, pure and simple. Loria makes over a billion dollar profit selling the stadium rights that the taxpayers built.

You cannot always do head to head comparisons of sports team values. The business may include other assets. Some teams own thier own stadiums (Patriots and Red Sox) while others suck off the govt teat (Yankees and Giants/Jets).

Without knowing exactly what their buying, you cannot judge if this is a good financial deal. I think the thinking 20 years ago was that Robert Kraft was throwing his money away buying a perinial losing Patriots team. I would say he has done alright on his investment.

True, but I bet the Marlins are one of the less valuable teams in baseball. So I start to think, gee, if the Marlins are worth $1.3 billion, what are the Cardinals worth? What are the Cubs or Yankees worth, thinking that certain teams will be worth a lot more than the Marlins.

It’s always a good business model when you can sucker the tax payer to build your stadium.
