BRONX Building on his success of Pre-K for all of the citys 4-year-olds, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday a plan to provide free full day pre-K for all of the citys 3 year-olds by 2021.
The program called 3K for All will ramp up starting this September with roughly 11,000 children attending the citys EarlyLearn programs, which serve the citys low-income working families.
In September 2018, about 2,000 3-year-olds in two of the citys poorest school districts South Bronxs District 7 and Ocean Hill/Brownsvilles District 23 will be part of the program. Two more districts, yet to be determined, will be added each of the next two years until the programs goes citywide in 2021.
Full day pre-K is the same as a regular school day, lasting six hours and 20 minutes.

Why? It's documentably damaging to little children's emotional well-being to be separated from their mothers, and especially damaging to little boys, who get wounded in their ability to bond.
If they were in the care of their grandmas, aunts or mature older sisters --- or their dads --- it would be different, since family doesn't go through a staff turnover every couple of months.
But to entrust their hearts to caregivers -- as they do, passionately -- and then get shunted off by workforce mobility--
It's like day-orphanages. It's just not right. Unattached or poorly-attached little boys turn into the grade-scool hellions. Ask any teacher.
If you really have public funding you need to burn through, why not spend it by encouraging effective male family-wage employment, and marriage? (I know, just a dream...) which would free up good, attached mothers to make a happy home-life with their little ones.
Public policy should be about centering, not outsourcing, children's sense of belonging: strengthening --- not replacing --- the family.
Yep. It’s stupid. It’s why I don’t live in New York.
My wife and I have said, constantly, that if we were to have kids today we would home school them. It’s a no brainer.
My sons pulled their kids out of public schools and was one of the best decisions he made! They excelled being out of that uncontrolled environment and daily drama!
