Telsa is making solar-collector roof tiles, thus eliminating the need for those ugly roof panels.

This is what the panels on my house look like. I don't consider them ugly at all, I consider them "No utility bill".

Solar is expensive, not just the cells but all the other equipment, especially the battery if you have a worthwhile battery backup. By the time you add a generator large enough to charge the battery you can easily have 40G's however U$ will give you 1/3rd of that back. This is if you are willing to do "ALL" the labor yourself, it is substantial.

In my state, the electric company has to take all my extra electricity and hold it for me and give it back to me with no charge. Since I have 12KW on the roof (actually 11.7) and I get 5 or 6 hours a day which is over 60KW and my average use is under 40 I have a substantial buffer. If there is a storm I can use the battery for a week or so if there is no sun and if I'm not using the A/C I can get by for about 2 weeks. Then I just run the generator for several hours every other day to charge the battery until things are back to normal or there is sunshine.

It is a lot of work, but when you get old what else you gonna do? :)

By the way that's me flying the drone in the picture.

Ya, I read about that. Wonder how they do in a hail storm?

Only kidding. A possibility... but they need to drop the price dramatically.
